Tips on Washing Machine Care

The washing machine may gain a smell through the odor-causing residues in your washer from laundry soils, detergents etc. Dirt removed from clothes can stick around in the drum after washing. Those residues in your washer release unpleasant smells, which can later on move onto your clothes.

How to clean the washing machine?

The first step to make your washing machine be odorless is simply leaving the door and dispenser drawer open for a while. This lets them dry out and stops that bad smell from settling.

You should take your clothes out of the machine immediately (or within 2 hours) rather than leaving them. Otherwise the damp, unpleasant smells could appear. A monthly maintenance wash is another good option. This means washing on a high temperature (a wash between 60C and 90C) with nothing inside, and a detergent with bleach in it. This wash will bring your machine a fresh and pleasant smell, which will later on pass to your clothes. When your washing machine does not drain properly, the first thing you should do is clean the detergent drawer.
Outside cleaning is also important

You should just wipe clean the outside part of your machine monthly with soapy water.

In addition, the rubber door seal can pick up residues in your washer from detergents and water hardness minerals easily, so you should give it a good clean. Also, it’s a good idea to check the filter, water supply hose and other parts of the washing machine. If you properly clean it, you will give it a new life.
